General Requirements:
U.S citizens are not required to obtain a visa to travel to Ecuador if it is less than 90 days. However, these visitors that are allowed to enter Ecuador without a visa must bring a passport with them that is valid for at least the next six months.
IMMIGRANT VISA (Residents)
The Immigrant visa is valid for an unlimited period. The immigrant is legally registered in the country as a permanent resident; he is allowed to freely leave or enter the state. However, there are some limitations. During the first two years after the visa is issued, he will not be permitted to be absent from the country of Ecuador for more than ninety days within a year. After the second year of residence, the limit goes up to eighteen consecutive months.
The Immigrants are exonerated from Customs Duties, Contributions, General or Special Taxes for the entry of their Household Goods and Work Related Equipment. They will have to obtain the respective exoneration from the Ministry of Finances and Public Credit of Ecuador.
The Immigrant Visa is a multiple entry visa. It is obtained at the Consular offices with the previous authorization through the Ministry of Foreign Relations; except for the Economical Dependence Visa, 10-VI, which does not require previous authorization and is granted directly at the Consulate. The procedure to obtain authorization takes about 15 days. The cost for this visa is $ 400.00 for the applicant and the same amount for each member of his family traveling alone. This Visa is free of charge for the citizens of Colombia, Spain, and Paraguay.
